Any of the six species of squirrel found in Colorado can try to live in your house, but that doesn't mean you need to tolerate them. Big Brown Bats in Fort Collins, CO

Big Brown Bats are the most common of the seven species of Bat found in the Fort Collins, Colorado area. This is based on the frequency of animals submitted to state and local public health agencies to be tested for rabies and on studies conducted by Colorado State University. Fort Collins provides perfect habitat: it is located in a river valley; there are a lot of insects; the temperatures are favorable; and urban development has created new potential roosting sites. While many species suffer when man moves in, building in the prairie gives big brown bats, new opportunities to expand their territory.

The humans benefit from the bats who are active insectivores and pollinators, but the relationship isn't all positive. Female big brown bats actively seek warm places to roost and raise their young.
